Whatever it is we are perceiving in the world - be it the day, our job, our relationships, a walk in the park, laying on the beach . . . is an open invitation to open up to the dialog that is going on at all times. Your inner guidance, your Soul, is always speaking to you through your interactions and perceptions of the world. Two people could be viewing a painting. One sees nothing, or very little. The other one is transported. Why? Because one is perceiving from the ego-mind, and the other is listening to the inner self as it is perceiving. We have two lenses through which to perceive reality: through the ego-mind, which finds fault with what it is perceiving; finds it flat and boring, "underwhelming," as it were - as I heard something referred to earlier today. Ego-mind is always seeking to be filled up, to be entertained, to be stimulated, in order to fill its own emptiness, which is like an abyss. There is no satisfying that part of ourselves. The other lens, is through that of the Soul or Inner Self or "Big S" Self. Through this lens, the outer world is simply a tapestry of symbols and archetypes that spark a deeper story that wants to reveal itself from within. It doesn't matter if you are smelling a flower, listening to music, listening to the ocean, watching children play, or witnessing a battle. The way the Soul or Inner Self speaks to us is through the world of feeling, merely sparked by images, sensations, sounds, smells - but only if the Inner Self is given the attention and not the ego-mind. When we are disconnected from this, and moving through the ego-mind, everything appears and feels flat. But that is not the fault of the object or experience we are projecting upon, but rather the faultiness of the lens through which we are viewing. We are looking for stimulation TO feel something. But feeling does not come from outside of us - it does not come from the object or experience we are demanding to make us feel something from. It comes from going within, to being still, to listening. And doing so on a consistent basis. The noise or dissonance isn't "out there," it is in one's own mind. So. . . we breathe. We connect the breath until the mind breaks free and there is nothing but the stillness and beauty of the Inner Self - the True Self. The ego-mind is an impostor and will betray you every time. So stop allowing it. Breathe. Be still. Listen(feel) to what is deeper that doesn't come from words. The words come later, from articulation. And even words cannot aptly describe the richness of the inner world.
