Depressed (Deep Rest) and the Process of Creating Abundance"Depressed" has become a bad word in our culture, unfortunately. Those of us who live in colder climates like Colorado, know the experience of depression all too well. Not very many understand the "medicine" of depression, though. Some of us who are very senstive, such as myself, have had to learn to align with the "seasons" of change, both in climate, but also in human terms. Insert breath here. Here is my deep understanding, my "take" on my various episodes and varying depths of depression, which have lasted anywhere from a few minutes, to hours, days, weeks, months and yes - even years on end. Depressed = "Deep Rest." Quite literally, the psyche is asking - in fact begging - signaling, that it is in need of deep rest from all of the things that are not currently supporting (and this may only be temporary) what you are wanting to create. The longer we resist (emphasis on resistance, which shows up - mostly unconsciously - in spades to almost anything we create) the call to dive in and listen, attend to, intend and extend from that call, the deeper the depression becomes. I've titled this in relationship to abundance, because I have come to know that all of creation is abundance. And in our fast-paced culture of "instant gratification," we have lost our connection to the process which is necessary to create pretty much anything worth having. There are no instant babies, no instant paintings, heck, not even a photo is instant, because all of the elements within that photo first had to take shape and form into something photographable, and if it's a photograph of nature, it could very well have taken hundreds of thousands of years for what you are perceiving to take shape and form - within a 3rd dimensional matrix of time and space. Insert breath here. "Whoa. . " you might say. "Back up a minute here. Say what?!?" Insert breath here. Yep. I said it. 3D creation, is a much slower process. But ALL of creation is a process. And perhaps we have been in 3D in order to slow it all down to witness the unfolding. But if you haven't learned those lessons, those processes, those awarenesses, really understood the alchemy and mystery (and most of it is all part of the Mystery/Source/God/All-That-Is) of the process that has little to nothing to do with you, then you are simply not going to move on to speeding up your manifesting. You may not even be able to consciously manifest anything. Most of your life has been a process of unconsciously manifesting the shit (yes, you are a powerful manifester, regardless, and some accountability, ownership and responsibility needs to be plugged in here) out of everything that has shown up in your life. Insert breath here. Take this article. You know how it started? It started on the first snowy day in Fall, a sign of things slowing way down, in Colorado. Tons and tons of people - especially transplants who have not yet developed the appreciation for this signal to slow it all down and create methodically, purposefully and consciously - are lamenting and crying about the weather. Me? I decided lastnight, before the storm hit, to stop off at the grocery store after work - My Friday - at a job that has taught me the masculine/Spirit energy of incredibly rapid pace of creation (so much so that sometimes I feel like I can hardly breathe, which makes me crave the feminine energy and capability of slowing things way down and savoring them). I didn't stop out of the common and very unconscious fear of being trapped in a blizzard and starving to death (insert breath here <!!!!>) - rooted in survival as many do <exhale>. I wanted to make Cocoa/Cacao Black Bean Soup in the crockpot, so that at the end of the day, some of the nearest and dearest ones I love get to receive the love I have added to a list of ingredients, and I get the pleasure of being in their presence as they lovingly receive it. This is nourishing to me:
Insert deep breath here. Exhale. This slowing down of the alchemical process of all of creation/creating/creativity, re-connects us with that process, and helps us remember it is a process. A necessary one. So if things aren't coming together in the timing that we think they should, we are mistaken. My soup, for instance, I had already taken the steps to create:
Insert deep breath here. Exhale. Now, this unexpectedly created something else entirely, this article, which I had zero intention or conscious preconception of writing, but voila - here it is. How does all of this relate to depression? Depression is a call from the deep of something which wants to be heard, expressed, and perhaps ultimately created. It puts on the brakes and asks you to stop what you are doing, go inside and listen to what that is that is wanting to be heard, and is asking you to at least temporarily take a DEEP REST from all of the things that are preventing you from more consciously and joyfully creating whatever it is your Soul really, really, REALLY wants to create and manifest through you, and helps you get in touch with the true Source of your abundance, which is already inside of you. It also slows you down so you can take inventory of the crazy awesome and cool bag of all of the wonderfully abundant things you have already created which are in your life right now, and recognize that it was your innate abundance which created them. And that some amazing creations are spontaneous and fun, even with zero intention of creating them, because you have slowed down enough to listen and tap into that place that just springs it forth effortlessly. Insert deep breath here. Exhale. Now. . . time for some hot, sweet and spicy tea. Insert deep breath here. Exhale. Anticipation. "Dreaming into" your creation, while simultaneously doing/enjoying something else. You smell the smells, you visualize the finished product, you rub your hands together, and get all excited about what's about to come. Whatever it is you are creating, when you aren't in the actual "doing" of the creating, use all of your senses - sight, smell, taste, touch, sound, sense, feel, know - to participate in that alchemical process. Insert deep breath here. Exhale. I hope you take the time to appreciate the gifts that the change of all seasons, including YOURS, are to be celebrated and relished. No matter what our fast-paced world says, it is not only okay, it is a requirement for your wellbeing to slow it all down and assess your inventory about what you need to take through the rest of the year into the next, and what you need to let go of, even if it's only temporarily. If you are going to swim across the ocean, you sure aren't going to do that without some preparation, and you most definitely aren't going to do that with heavy stuff on your back. You'll drown. Insert BIG DEEP BREATH HERE. This is a time on the inside and the outside of yourself, to give yourself the gift of relishing all of the delicious moments you have created so quickly you haven't given yourself the opportunity to enjoy them before moving on to the next thing. Insert breath here. Exhale. Abbondanza! Which is said when a meal is placed before you, quite literally translates to Abundance! Let that sink in... Insert BIG AFFIRMATIVE DEEP BREATH HERE. Annnnddd EXHALE. I could go on and on about the languages of love, or 3D vs 5D creating for instance, which I alluded to briefly here, but this is a pretty good nugget for now. I'll write more on that in other articles. Because that's where we are, loves! We can't be creating in 5D without first assessing what 3D has taught us, so we can bring forth that wisdom and create more consciously, because what we will be creating will come quickly and we need to be damn clear! BIIIIIIIIIGGGGG DEEEEEEEEP BREATH! Exhale. This entire week has been a process of gathering nuggets of snapshots of reality to put together and create this spontaneous expression emanating from my Soul. And I am so grateful for right timing (a day off), on a snowy, pre-Winter day. My episodes of depression have shortened significantly because I am paying attention to the signals and giving my mind, body, and Spirit my presence, attention and acknowledgement they need for them to continue to carry my ego-self (my sense of "I") on my journey of life. My body and Spirit is asking me to be present and participate. Sometimes the ego thinks it has the front seat and it is the driver, but it is really meant to be a passenger, an observer, until it is time to do it's part.
Insert deep breath here. Exhale. Last, but certainly not least, in the process of creation, which many of us miss, and also contributes to our feelings of depression, is the cleanup of the residue and messes we make when we are creating. Cleanup is a crucial part of the process, and may very well be the most important! If you have a sink full of dirty dishes, you certainly don't have those dishes for your next creation, right? You have to clean up your messes! Which translates to: clean up your energy. Maybe turn some of the scraps into compost, which will provide nutrients for your next creation in the early steps of... that deep, dark, fertile place. BIG. DEEP. BREATH. Exhale. Let it all go. You can do it. You cannot breathe new life in, without exhaling to make space for the next breath, your next creation.

...especially how we feel. Some of us, as sensitive individuals, have navigated those waters of thinking and feeling for a long time, and have learned to find the peace in the chaos. Some of us are still working on it. So many of us are just now feeling the whole broad spectrum of what's possible - often in the course of an entire day. Some of the ways in which we feel are confusing, and our tendency is to think that how we feel somehow defines us. But really what is happening, is that we are receivers - much like signals and radio signals between television and radio stations, to televisions and radios. With so much wireless technology, it's no wonder. However, this blog article will not be addressing that. Perhaps in another article. :) These things however, are helping to bring humanity to an understanding that there is much being broadcast, and that includes thoughts and feelings. I won't get too much into the nuts and bolts of why it all works, at this point. But I will be offering some assistance for how to work through them. Oftentimes we have a feeling or an emotion that at times can feel incredibly overwhelming. Perhaps there was a triggering event, such as an argument or misunderstanding, perhaps not. In any case, the mind always tries to jump in and make sense of such overwhelm, and to be the control tower - and it does so by attaching MEANING to a feeling or emotion and also attaching it to a person or circumstance. When this happens, it is important to simply notice the dialog going on in the mind, and to begin to connect the breath. Let the breath help you ride the waves of emotion and feeling without judgment, without quantifying or qualifying. Most importantly, remember that all states are fleeting, for better or for worse. We have a good time, it's fleeting. We want more. We have longing. The moment passes. Another moment, perhaps we are deciding, based on emotion and feeling, or interpretation of a situation or circumstance, that we are not having a good time. This too, shall pass. If we give ourselves the space, however, to fully feel the feeling and to utilize the breath as a vehicle to radically stay present with ourselves, a feeling of calm eventually comes over us, and it shifts. By doing that, it is not only possible but probable that you may not have to revisit that circumstance again with the same interpretation because you have integrated it as a simple memory. It is that simple. Your breath IS that powerful. You have a built-in healing machine that can help you process the most painful of circumstances and digest them in smaller bites. Our tendency, however, is to barricade ourselves against painful circumstances, and just like a tidal wave hitting a wall, creates even bigger tidal waves (ripple effects) which continue until the energy has been fully discharged. It builds, otherwise. Soon, there will be greater understanding of the value and power of one's own breath. It has been around for thousands of years, but we have gotten so far away from the wisdom of it, and have instead employed lack of consciousness, unawareness, and we use any number of artificial and ineffective means to deal with very natural processes. If you want to know more about the specific technique of breathing that I am discussing here, please leave me a comment, or fill out the contact form. Whatever it is we are perceiving in the world - be it the day, our job, our relationships, a walk in the park, laying on the beach . . . is an open invitation to open up to the dialog that is going on at all times. Your inner guidance, your Soul, is always speaking to you through your interactions and perceptions of the world. Two people could be viewing a painting. One sees nothing, or very little. The other one is transported. Why? Because one is perceiving from the ego-mind, and the other is listening to the inner self as it is perceiving. We have two lenses through which to perceive reality: through the ego-mind, which finds fault with what it is perceiving; finds it flat and boring, "underwhelming," as it were - as I heard something referred to earlier today. Ego-mind is always seeking to be filled up, to be entertained, to be stimulated, in order to fill its own emptiness, which is like an abyss. There is no satisfying that part of ourselves. The other lens, is through that of the Soul or Inner Self or "Big S" Self. Through this lens, the outer world is simply a tapestry of symbols and archetypes that spark a deeper story that wants to reveal itself from within. It doesn't matter if you are smelling a flower, listening to music, listening to the ocean, watching children play, or witnessing a battle. The way the Soul or Inner Self speaks to us is through the world of feeling, merely sparked by images, sensations, sounds, smells - but only if the Inner Self is given the attention and not the ego-mind. When we are disconnected from this, and moving through the ego-mind, everything appears and feels flat. But that is not the fault of the object or experience we are projecting upon, but rather the faultiness of the lens through which we are viewing. We are looking for stimulation TO feel something. But feeling does not come from outside of us - it does not come from the object or experience we are demanding to make us feel something from. It comes from going within, to being still, to listening. And doing so on a consistent basis. The noise or dissonance isn't "out there," it is in one's own mind. So. . . we breathe. We connect the breath until the mind breaks free and there is nothing but the stillness and beauty of the Inner Self - the True Self. The ego-mind is an impostor and will betray you every time. So stop allowing it. Breathe. Be still. Listen(feel) to what is deeper that doesn't come from words. The words come later, from articulation. And even words cannot aptly describe the richness of the inner world. |
